Question 560sel 88 105k smoke from inside valve cover

The ventilation hose that goes from the valve cover to the air cleaner was loose. I saw the smoke come out like a film effect. It is on the pass. side.

I opened the valve cover to find smoke coming out of the oil fill access.

Pressure test is ok.

Valve stems or guides? Does anyone have any information on replacement?

I will also replace lifters. Ticking is loud.

Thank you

Nick Mendoza

Nick,

Do you get through a lot of oil?

Does it smoke on acceleration?

If no to the above, you could be ok for many more miles, some amount of smoke from this hose is normal, that's what they're for.......

Leaking valve stem oil seals will not cause this problem.

Take off the hose on the other valve cover (other side of engine) and check down in the hole that the small end of the hose came off of. There is a very small hole in the bottom of that hole which is the "PCV" (Positive Crankcase Ventilation). Make sure this small hole is clean. You should feel vacumn on this hole with the engine running. If not clean it again. I had to run a drill bit of the same size in mine (84 500SEL) to clean it out. Fixed the problem you are having.
