Well I think my 300D gave up the ghost today. Either the timing chain went or someother major component. oh well. The rest of the car is in great shape. Need a new engine..Can someone help out. Who is reputable. I live in the washington DC area. Germantown maryland. This is my main transportation so i need new engine fast. I would prefer to do work myself. Any help is appreciated.

Mark, Try Atlanta-Stuttgart Autoparts. They have tons of old MBZ parts etc. The number is 1-800-635-1445. Punch in 1110 for extension and you'll get Dave. Either speak to him or leave voice mail. He's real good about calling back. You may get lucky. Maybe Benzmac or Steve can give you a lead on a motor. Good luck..

You might also give Metric Motors a call. They're in California and specialize in MB engines strictly. Their number is: 1-800-622-6867. Their prices for longblocks are as follows..

300D non-turbo (longblock) $5,100, (shortblock= no cylinder head) $2,600

Hope this helps!

Update..Didn't have time to do serious trouble shooting but found the cam is not turning when the crank is. No anti freeze in oil. But when engine turns it feels like no compression at all. I think my first guess may be right. timing chain went and took out other components.

The car is worth saving in my opinion. Everything on it is in excelent condition and everything on it works like it was new. Car only had 210k on it.

Thanks everyone. I will be making calls today and keep everyone posted. I don't remember where i saw it but someone had complete engines with 100k warranty for $3200.
