authenticating my E 50

I bought a 2000 year model E50, is there a site where I could check whether the vehicle is a geneuine AMG E 50?

What are the differences between the E50 & E55 engines

The only E50 I show for the 210 was produced from 01/96 to 08/97. This E50, if it is a 2000 model would probably be either a fake, or was still produced at the seperate AMG facilty, so it would be considered a "tuner car", not a factory built car. Although this is somewhat offset by the fact that MB is a majority shareholder of AMG.
For authentication I would write or email AMG or possibly Mercedes would have record of it if it went directly from the factory to AMG. In some cases the car will actually leave the factory and go to AMG without even being completed, as AMG will modify so much of the car it makes no sense for example to install interior components or driveline which will just have to be removed later.
In your case you would want to be wary of a car which has just had badges applied, ground effects or body kit added, and some engine trim changed, maybe some suspension mods, this is very easy to do, you are wise in trying to research it, but I would have done this before purchasing it, especially if the owner has no supporting documentation to show it's "real".

Gilly,

I believe that your comments regarding the AMG badges are actual, I took a chance when buying this one since the vehicle was in perfect condition, and had low millage(which I am starting to suspect too) and the price was right for an E 420 or E 500. It is fully loaded, with leather electrical seats, moonroof, AMG 18" wheels, Seat Heaters, 8 airbags, and lots of power.

I am begining to think that it might be actually an E420, is there a way of knowing that for sure from the chasis number.

My only problem with the local dealer is that they dont import this model, and were not able to support my queries.

Thanks

Actually yes, its a European car and the VIN number starts with 2100721*******

But the problem wrised when I took the vehicle to to local dealer ship where they told me it couldnt be right, and it should start with 210074********, becuase the regular (E420) brake pads and disks wouldnt fit, and I would have to use the AMG version.

Its causing me a lot of confusion since I dont know what exact modification has been done on the car, and I dont have any service history since ir was imported from Germany only a month back.

These German AMG Club members may help....they have direct factory AMG support and several of their members work for AMG.

The "210.072" would indicate that it's an E420. However, in the US anyways, the 210.072 was last sold in 1997. In 1998 it became the E430, which is a 210.070, so yes, for it to be a 2000 model E420 is confusing indeed, unless perhaps the E420 continued to be produced for other markets.
The E420 and E430 are different engine types, the E420 was an M119 motor and the E430 was the M113 motor. Since your car carries the identical chassis number as a US version car, I would assume it is close to identical to the US version and should have the M119 motor. Do you know how to tell the difference?
The easiest way is by the sparkplugs. On the M119 you should not be able to see the spark plug wires at all, should be hidden under long plastic covers. On the M113, you will see the plug wires on the side of the engine, and there will be 2 sparkplugs per cylinder, 8 spark plug wires on EACH side of the motor.
Are you POSITIVE it is a 2000 model year?
On the drivers door jamb should be a sticker, and in the corner of the sticker will be the month and year produced, for example 03/00 is March 2000. There may also be an emissio label on or near the radiator support, at the bottom of which will mention the model year. This of course is all based on US version vehicles, hopefully there will be similar info on your car.

the engine has two spark plugs for each cylinder, it has AMG engine cover, AMG speedometer, AMG steering wheel, AMG Ground effects and wheels. The sticker in rear says E55 AMG

And I Just learned yesterday that with that chasis number it could be an E 55

My concern is what actual modifications were done on the engine, and were they made by AMG. the dealer was no help at all, they dont have dyno test, and are not able to tell me what is the capacity of the engine. All they were able to tell me is that the vehicle was modified By AMG.

Issam,

Some additional teltale signs of a U.S.-spec E55 are blue-tinted glass, special wood trim, wheels, spoilers, etc.

Is the car blindingly fast??

Got any pictures of the car?

Yes it has all the above plus, 5 speed Auto/Maual gear box, Moon roof, Electrical Sports seats, side mirror turn signals, rear airbags and so on
AMG: Steering wheel, Ground effects, fr/rr Bumpers, engine cover, Exauhst tips, Brakes, Wheels, speedometer, Front Grill
every thing looks like real AMG
But i dont know about blindingly fast ( My previous car was a C-5 corvette) ..
But generally speaking, it is fast. I will try to post some pictures some time this week.

Regards,

Issam

With that engine (a 113), if it were a factory built AMG it should be an E55 AMG, which would be a 210.074, with a unique motor number, a 113.980. I am unsure where the motor number is on a 113, we should find out and have you post what that number is.

The motor number on an E430 is 210.070

Gilly,

I have emailed you the VIN and engine numbers,

By the way I would like to confirm the model year of the vehicle too, is that possible through those numbers, in fact I am not sure of anything anymore with regards to the info on this vehicle.

Regards,

Issam
