500 SEL Stalls on occasion

My 1983 500 SEL euro (115,000 miles) will stall every so often when I take my foot off the pedal. Other times the rpms drop and then come right back up. If it stalls, I shift to neutral while rolling, and start it back up and it is fine.

Could this be a vacuum leak of some type?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Jeff,

it could be a dirty idle control valve. Do a search on that. If you disconnect the connector, idle should go up to 2,500 rpms, if I'm not mistaken. If it doesn't, valve is stuck.
