560 sl stalls unexpectedly at anytime

After running for about 7-10 miles my 560 sl will stop unexpectedly. I have replaced the fuel pumps...it continued. Replaced the fuel filter...still no fix...just replaced the fuel pump relay.....and guess what... it still happens. Needless to say I am getting a little ticked off. I can't drive the car now as I am afraid that I am about to have a serious accident when it dies at 65 mph. Each time it stalls It restarts right away, then runs a little rough for about a mile then will stop again....the start stop routine is re-played over and over until i finsh limping home.
Any ideas?

I have had problems with the ignition coils and the crank sensor. also, the EZL ignition controller.

Good luck.

I'm wondering whether it's a fuel problem. Did it by any chance start acting up soon after you got fuel? My dad had a similar problem one time. He siphoned some fuel out of the tank and tried to light it. Guess what. It wouldn't burn.

Probably not your problem but ....

Check the coil to distributor wire. Mine works its way loose every once and a while and causes it to quit running.

my 300te did this...

and after a frustrating search, it proved to be a cracked distributor cap - replaced and no stalls since.
