I just recently purchased an '88 300E. Checking on things under the hood, I tried to check on the air filter. There are 4 nuts on the top of the cover, along with the 6 clamps. The stud which would be in the 10 o'clock position is stripped at the bottom (inside or under the cover). Any suggestions on how to remove the nut from the stud? Or how do I get to the stud?

I have had luck releasing all of the fasteners and holding upward pressure on the lid. Use a small impact to take off the nut. The hammering action of the impact will take it off.
