1996 E300D Check engine light

I have a 1996 E300D diesel. The "Check engine electronics" light comes on when I start the car and stays on. The car is running fine. Can anyone tell me what needs to be checked?

There is a stored OBD fault in the diesel engine control system.
You need to visit a shop or the dealership to have the codes
scanned to see whats the matter.
I would recommend doing this soon. Even thought you cars runs
fine, there maybe something bad happening.
Good luck.

First thing first. Tighten your gas cap. The w210 is sensitive to this little problem. If the cas cap is not tightened, it automatically sets off the "Check Engine" light.

Hope this helps

Odds are there is a glow plug fault stored in IFI/DFI. Just follow the diagnostic tree and you'll find it.

There is also the occassional failure of the air flow meter and egr systems issues as well.

The 1996 & 97 diesels DON'T monitor the fuel tank & gas gap for leakage. You need a scanner (ODB2) to find the problem.

Wink

It turned out to be in the SRS system. One sensor went bad. Thanks for the inputs.
