MB Mechanic in Napa Valley?
Does anybody know of a good MB mechanic int he Napa Valley or North Bay area? My mom's 87 300E is in need of a valve job or the cylinder head being rebuilt so I would like to find out the best place to do that.
Thanks. brockley

Tom Carin is one of the mechanics here and he is very thorough about his work.

Alpina is very thorough
I had an old BMW e12 chassis and they did great work. When I got my W126 and asked for an estimate an work to be done, they told me to save my money as the work would be too costly. Honest in my opinion and I wound up doing the work myself. Another guy in Napa I've had good luck with (for minor repairs) is Eurasian Autowerkes on the corner of Soscol and Third ST. They seem like stand-up guys and their shop is clean. I've heard good things about Napa Autowerke on Yajome street although I have no experience with them.

Tom is very thorough about his work, keep in mind that shops may send cylinder heads out to have the valve work performed.
When I send a cylinder head to a machine shop I request that they "do not bead blast" the head, it is sand/glass and I do not want it to become a potential problem. This goes double for the later model cylinder heads confirgured with multiple camshafts, bores for the followers, and small passages for delivering lubricant. The abrasive material used for bead blasting does not comfort me when it is used on cylinder heads! Procedures vary form shop to shop so I encourage you to ask a shop how they address cylinder head work. If they send the work out than it is in your best interest to request "No bead blasting" on your cylinder head. |

Thanks for the info. I will be making calls this afternoon to 4 shops in the area to see which is the best price/quality as well as time since we would like the car back ASAP so my mom isnt without a car for long. The 4 shops are Alpina, Silver Star, Selbach and Eur-Asian. If anyone has any past experiences with any of these shops they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks brockley
