hard shift

Hi,
Lately my 350 SDL has been shifting hard. One mecanic tels me its normal and another one tels me that he will have to change the vacuum pump located on the driver side of the engine. Is there something to do without changing the pump.
Thank you,
J-P

You should have the vacuum supply to the trans vacuum modulator checked. The vacuum control valve that regulates the vacuum to the modulator can cause that problem as well.
