300E 3rd brake lite question

I need to remove my 3rd brake light to replace the loose sealing strip against the glass (see photo). In reading other posts recently someone said that to remove the rear cover you should gently squeeze the sides and pull toward the front of the car. However, looking at the cover (and you can see it in the photo) there is a tab on each side that looks like it needs to be pulled out rather than pushed in.

Can anyone verify the proper removal technique? (And if I should manage to break it, any idea what new ones are worth?)

After I remove the cover, will the means to remove the rest of the lamp housing be obvious?

Thanks,

Gary
