There'a humming sound on my PS pump. My car is a W124 300D 1985 (Euro).

The sound comes out when I turn the stg. wheel to the left only. There's no sound when I turn the wheel to the right.

Could it be the fuild? Dirty filter?

Thanks!

Wait 'till both sides sound equally bad and then repost . Seriously, this sounds like some air in the pump or a worn seal inside the steering box. Does the feel of the steering change comparing the left to the right?

Be sure the fluid is at proper fill level. Wait 'till cold and check. (all of the airation will have gone away by then.

OK - Thanks guys! Have'nt really used the car since I got the BOX overhauled and replaced all o-rings/oil-seals. There were some leaks.

Will used the car more and see what happens. I'm also planning to drain the fluid and change the filter. Can I use any DEXRON II or III or do I have to use MB Steering fluid?

Thanks!

Francis, DEX II or III are OK, but it's nice to stick with OEM products when you can, especially when they are not critical items.
