They are very well rated. Often there are coupons through parts retailer that makes them excellent values.
Most resopnses to PIAA is that they are over-rated and too expensive. Hella makes good bulbs but again very expensive. What ever bulb you use, be sure not to touch the glass with your fingers. Even the tiniest amount of oil from skin can cause an uneven spot that will make the bulb burn out. Haasman

How are they compared to conventional halogen bulbs (9004 in particular)? There has been a lot of talk that these performance bulbs are just plain hype. Are they in fact better in terms of illumination or the quality of the light that they emit? What is the technology that make them better? It's go to be more than simply coating the bulb with some blue tint?

I bought a pair of Sylvania "VisionPlus" bulbs for my girlfriends 400E - They are highly rated "premium" bulbs. I can't really tell much of a difference over standard H4 or 9004 bulbs.
They are certainly NOTHING like my 300D 2.5 turbo with 100/90W rallye bulbs - with relays and upgraded wiring. There is no substitute for cubic inches.... Tim |

to answer your question...
.. i have Sylvania silver stars on my GMC 2500---
I was able to compare them to halogens because the high beams are separate from the lows. So with that , I just changed the lows and the difference is substantial...switching them from hi- low beams - very nice super white light from the SS's. So the answer to that is--- Yes, highly recommended

I sell those on ebay and have them in my car. They are a bit brighter but the largest difference is how white the light is.

if it is for a w124 or w126 with d.o.t. lights, silverstars WILL NOT HELP. you need euros to see. i have the silverstars in my '02 explorer. the 9006 low beams lasted about a year. the 9005 high beams are still working. the light is a 'very white', not yellowish or ricer blue. also they are 60/70 watts, so that's a bit of a help. blue light does scatter more quickly. SEE daniel stern's website. a lot of the 'performance' bulbs you speak of are a lot of hype. piaa makes me sick, the deceptive advertising and stupidly high pricing. you'll never see those in a car of mine. if you are a 'technical' kind of person, go to the sylvania website, they ahave a bunch of info on it. also go to the dan stern website. did i mention go to the dan stern website? he talks about the silverstars and performance bulbs a bit there. peter
