I just got a 82 300SD as a replacement for my 81 300D that died. I can here my motors in the electric seat go when I move the switch, but no movement. The drivers seat goes forward and backword but the rear and front of the seat won't go up and down. I have read once that there is a cable that goes bad? I have worked on alot of things on my mercedes, but never the seats, any tips or advice.

Sounds like you have a cable problem. Had a cable in my seat pop out of the socket on the gear head when someone ran the seat all the way to the bottom. It has either poped out far enough it won't drive or the cable is hatched. Not very hard to fix.

Sometimes the ball bearings will fall out. You have to remove the seat to check.
