rebult suspension accumulators?
My new suspension accumulators appear to be rebuilt. Appears to be a welded up drill mark + a little new paint in the same place the service manual directs to drill to relieve pressure before disposal. Anyone ever see this? This is from a reputable parts dealer many of us have used. One who has always given me a choice of new over rebuilt in the past. Price was $93 ea. Can these things be rebuilt or recharged?

I've never heard of anyone rebuilding them. The price seems a bit high even for new.

I have used rebuilt accumulators for early Rolls-Royces but they were meant to be disassembled.
I can see how someone could recharge the nitrogen pressure but there surely would be no way to repair the leaking diaphram that lost the original gas charge. I wouldn't waste my time on anything other than OE MB or Lemforder. Maybe Febi-bilstein, also.

This is MB OE. From a dealer. I will call them later today when they are open, and ask them if these are new.

They are filled by pressurizing then welding the pressure fitting shut while pressure is applied. Sounds like fun......
They can be "rebuilt" by re-pressurizing, but I don't imagine it would cost much less IF you could find someone to do it for you. The nitrogen eventually diffuses through the diaphram in use, it rarely actually peforates. However, with all the flexing it does in use, re-pressurizing is probably only a short term fix anyway. Maybe I am crying wolf.
I just called them and they confirmed they are MB OE and are new. When looking at the bulb, with the screws in the mounting plate facing down, shoudl there be a little weld on the top -- on the side when new? (In addition to the 'nipple' in the very center of the bulb.) Or shoudl they be perfectly smooth except for the 'nipple'.

It's been three years since I change mine, I no longer remember completely, but I do think there was some evidence of a weld spot somewhere.
