Climate Control Fan

1992 500SL. The fan for the climate control system has stopped working. There were no apparent symptoms prior to the failure. It simply failed to work one morning. Possible causes/ cures? Thanks.

I would suspect the electric blower regulator or fuse 1 in the auxilary fuse holderm right behind the brake booster.

I have replaced no less than 10 blower regulators this month...We sell them in the partsshop if you wish to save money. The shop will charge one hour, and you should be able to do it in that amount of time. It is located under the black plastic panel just below the windscreen under the hood. 7 phillips head screws hold down the panel and either 2 phillips or 2 torx bolts hold down the regulator. (under the air filter)

It is not the fuse. Is there a way to test the regulator before ordering a new one? Thanks,

Yes, You have to remove the outer covering that is under the hood just below
the windshield. I has 6-7 Phillips screws and a vacuum line or two holding
it in place. Take out the dust filter and the blower will be below. Pull
the blue plug back enough to see bare metal, but not so loose that you loose
contact. Turn on the key and the blower to max. Back outside the car
listen closely to the sound of the blower. Now ground the pin that is
exposed to the chassis of the blower with a hefty wire. If the blower speed
increases, the regulator is faulty. This is the quick and easy way to check
and it assumes that the input to the regulator is good. (I have not ever
seen the input faulty.)
