w124 euro light and wiper question

I have an 87 300e. I will be upgrading to euro lights soon. I began by doing a search on this subject but could not find the info I was looking for. Neither of my headlight wipers are currently working, and I was wondering if and how I could leave them off after I switch to the euros. I imagine I will have to buy 2 metal plates w/o holes to go under new lights? Also, I do not want the vacuum adjustment system and switch for the new lights. Is this possible? Is so, how are they then adjusted? I'm trying to keep the car as simple as possible b/c simplicity=less problems. On a side note, I noticed a huge chunk taken out of the grey plastic on my front grill, is there anything I could possibly do to fix this outside of buying a new grill? I doubt there is but just checking.

1. Yes, you can leave the wipers disconnected and just tuck the connectors for them out of the way somewhere. The panels w/o holes are cheap.

2. Vacuum adjustment is optional. They are manually adjusted via 3 knobs.

dirty socks

buy the fascia plates from a 260e.

some hella euros do not come with vac adjuster capability. all bosch units have them.

hooking all this up is optional and requires extra parts.
because this was a factory option, most likely your lights will be way low [aim] when you first fire them up.

unplug your old wipers. you can do this in front of the wiper-washer units.

have you checked/replaced all your fuses? it's not expensive and is a good idea to refresh them.

The panels below the headlights should be available from Fastlane or the MB dealer, without wiper holes. They come primer black: My advice is have them painted by a shop to match your car at least a month before you install the new Euros, then put them on a shelf until after the paint cures, wax them, and apply some of the 3M stone guard plastic film to the panels. Otherwise they will be more prone to rock pits than the factory paint.

On Euros, If you get the Hella or Bosch, there are 4 different 'subspecies, 3 of which only vary in appearance. The early w124 had Euros with the trim inside the lens painted medium grey. Later w124s had this trim painted silverish/grey, and the final w124s had a lens that was molded differently to match the integral grill/hood arrangement. The 4th variation was the 500E lights, which replaced the fog light reflector and lens pattern with a 'pencil beam' driving light reflector and lens pattern. (Shown in the 300E photo in my signature line, below)

There are also Italian, German, and Asian aftermarket 300E lights, and they may have there own variations.

JCE,

I like the looks of your lights over others I have seen. Do I understand them to be euros for a 500E. Also where did you buy them?
