another tranny question
will the tranny from a 1987 380se fit and work in a 1990 560sel?I bought a nice 560 with a bad tranny and have a 87 380se tranny with 57000 miles and works real nice.thanx

It should work if they're both 722.3s.

I think the big V8s have a different "bell house" fitting - it looks like two starter ears - I think they also have different gear ratios inside.
I can check for sure if you fill in the XXXs in the following for both transmissions 722.3XX Alternatively you can see loads of pictures and even some part numbers on EverythingBenz - Mercedes-Benz Forum and Web Search Using Google

tranny numbers
the 380se has two starter ears and the 560sel does also. i have rear from 380se also if i need it.where are numbers located?thanx for reply

Oh right - didn't know that about the 380se transmission - thanks for the information. The numbers are on the casing just where it meets with the transmission oil pan on the right hand side of the gear box (taken as though the transmission is fitted in the vehicle).
