Run, hide,.............another oil question.

With the cold weather rapidly approaching & an oil change coming up, I was contemplating switching to a lighter weight oil.
My warm weather oil is Mobil 1 15W50.
Looking at the options readily available at the store, I noticed all Mobil 1's ( 5W30, 10W30 & 15W50 ) have a pour point of - 45 F.
So what is the point of changing to a different ( lighter ) weight in the first place ?
