W210 Electric Fan

I don't understand why earlier model W210 M111 engine equiped with 1 Belt driven fan and 2 electric fan. The latter models only with 1 electric fan. Which is better? Can I discard the belt driven fan and retain only the 2 electric fan. I lived in temperate climate avg temp 35 deg C. Please advise.

Talking Engine fans

Hi Abdul, the engine's outside cooling is by the main fan which is driven by the serpentine belt. The other 2 are auxcillary fans which come on only when the engine reaches about 100C. Both my 2 fans come on at the same time and only for a few seconds, presumably to add extra cooling power for the radiator when its very hot. I don't think it will be wise to take any of the fans off as they were designed to keep the engine at a certain temp. and not higher or you will have a blown engine. Malaysia is a lot hotter than here all year round so the fans should be a necessity. Last weekend, my car was at the indie and he was testing my aircon . The temp. outside was about 30C and my 2 aux. fans were firing off and on while the car was at standstill in the workshop.
