Aftermarket tail lights W124

I just bought a set of "GECAR" aftermarket taillights for my 1991 MB 300e. When I took them out of the box, they looked great. But when I tried to install them on the car - no luck. I can't seem to line up the studs on the new lens to the holes on the OEM reflector.

I realize that the aftermarket stuff is not always 100%, but has anyone else managed to mount a set of less than co-operative lenses on their MB? What are the tricks?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
