Question Help with '92 E300 D

Hey guys.

Ive only had this car a few weeks. and something has just occured to me.

I havent noticed a cooling fan next to the radiator.

Is this the norm. or should i expect a whopping great big thing?

Does this mean im ringing the guy who sold it to me?

any help would be great.

RE Fan

300 Series gas cars should have 2 electric fans completely visible in FRONT of the radiator seen when the hood is up. Mine has these and also a standard engine driven fan as well. I don't know about the diesel, but since diesels typically run cooler than gas engines, if it has a fan off the engine or another fan somehwere else, you should be fine.

ive thought about this.

working in UK temperture guides ive noticed that the engine temperture rarely goes above half the guage in the instrument panel.

maybe thats it.

Is your vehicle fitted with AC? What is the extreme ambient temperature in the summer months for your area?

I can only speak of my actual knowledge which reflects US built vehicles. On all the 124's I have ever worked on over time I cannot recall any of them not having "Auxiliary Fans."

Most, if not all, 124's were fitted with AC for sale in the US. The US also has extreme differentials with "Ambient Temperatures" across the country. Being fitted with AC plus having a wide range of temperature changes Auxiliary Fans are common, here.

it hasn't got AC as such. just the normal climate control.

Id say that as i cant see a refridgerant tank in front of the main rad.

Just seems strange that i read in my Haynes manual that it mentioned a fan.

In Liverpool England. The hottest we had since records began was this year. 35'C.

Ah. No need to pull large amounts of air through the condensor while sitting. No need for lots of big fans. I'm sure on close inspection there is a fan buuried in there somewhere, the requiements for a non-AC equipped car are much lower, so the fan set up might be very different. I know on our 626, it has two huge fans while non-AC 626's have one tiny one.
