gas tank interchange

Recently aquired a 74 450 SEL. Fuel tank filler tube to tank was cut and spliced with rubber hoses and clamps. It leaks- and certainly is only a temporary thing even if I can get it to seal somehow. Question is what tanks interchange- I'm in California and should be able to get a good used tank (w/filler tube) at a junkyard. What years interchange? Are the Deisel tanks (300D?)
the same or not?

Rick

I should add that this 1974 450 no longer has to pass smog in Ca.
While I'm not a proponent of dirty air, or certainly don't want to create another hole in the ozone layer, there may be some issues related to a suitable tank that can be modified for use in my car that might not otherwise be appropriate.
