R129 Hardtop Problem

I just put my hardtop on for the winter, and noticed the headliner is loose in a couple places.

One place is at the rear edge of the headliner at the top of the middle of the rear window.

The other is on the underside of the left rear quarterwindow, where the headliner is held on with screws around the underside of the hardtop.

I believe the first place can just be glued down. With the second problem area, however, there appears to be not enough vinyl to reach under the gasket.

If anyone has experienced similar problems, I'd appreciate know what methods you used to make the repairs.

Thanks,

Mine is like that around the bottom rear lip. Came that way when we purchased the car used.

Yes, it doesn't seem like there is enough material to do the repair.

So I ignore it as it hasn't gotten any worse.

My wife never likes the hardtop installed (been on the car on two occasions since 2000), so it's not a priority.

You might consult an upholstery shop. It's not a major repair, so they could probably do it right for about $100...

Interesting comment re the wife. Personally, I like either the hardtop or no top. Of course, the softtop is required for sudden rains etc, but I think the soft top looks out of place and the plastic backlight, tho mine has no crazing, is more difficult to see out of than glass (or nothing!)

But I wanted to let you knolw that I got another answer from an owner who said he had an interior guy come out, and he repaired the loose area by using a heat gun and stretching the headliner enough to refit it properly.

Thanks for your contribution to knowledge.
