brake fluid above max level
Ifter replacin front brake pads and rotors, I found brake fluid level is above max.
Should I remove the superfluous brake fluid? |

I probably would, you need a little room in there for when the fluid expands.

When you do brake pads/discs, remove some fluid, leave the cap off the resevoir and cover the opening with a shop rag.
After you are done, add or remove fluid as required. |

Remember that your new pads are thicker than the worn ones...so the pistons have been recessed a bit to accommodate the extra width, thus pushing the excess fluid back to the reservoir.
There isn't much fluid volume available between MAX and the top of the cap. Leaving the fluid level as is probably wouldn't hurt, but I always believe engineers have a reason for marking things the way they do...

If the reservoir overflows, the brake fluid will consume your paint.
Turkey baster is the ideal tool for this.

Manual says top off the fluid
If the customer complaines of spongy brake feel the manual says to top off the reservoir.
Seems to me it's too much, but who am I to question the factory.

my suggestion is, if you should decide to siphon some fluid, do not use a turkey baster. instead, go to a veterinarian's office and purchase a large syringe. no leaks, no spills and no mess.

I asked a service advisor at MB dealer whether the brake fluid level has to be between min and max. He said no. He added that it is impossible to overfill brake fluid.
However, AAA web site says differetly. " The reservoir usually has FULL and ADD or MAX and MIN marks molded into its body, and the fluid level should be between these two indicators." " You may find markings to indicate the correct level inside the reservoir. If not, be sure that the fluid level is about 1/4 to 3/8 inch from the top of the reservoir. " http://www.csaa.com/global/articledetail/0,8055,1004010302%257C2026,00.html I just called to 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES. She told me to take some out if the brake fluid level is above maximum.
