Can anyone tell me how to remove the front ABS sensors on a 1989 420SEL?

step one

Ok, I've got the screw out, a 5 mm hex head, in the dust shield, ( protective plate 126 420 04 44) . Does the sensor slide up or down and then out? I tried prying lightly with a screw driver but no luck. Do I have to take the rotor off and punch it out from the other side. Someone said there is no way I'll get it out without breaking it.

Comments? Recommendations?

The sensor is a tight fit in the hole, plus there is an o-ring and the sensor seems to be magnitized. If you cannot get it to work out by gentle twisting and cautious tugging (on the sensor, not the lead) then you may have to pull the rotor to push it out.
