Are you talking about the vacuum modulator on the transmission?

Theres not really any tricks to removing and installing it. Its so hard to get to it cuz theres not enough room. If you disconnect the driveshaft by removing the bolts from the flex dics....it will allow the transmission to drop down a little. That should give you enough room to work with. To remove the modulator.....you twist it.

On a side note.....I just recently swapped out my 85 transmission and I put in a 86 auto. I fried my 85.

Be sure to CLEAN aroun the old one so no dirt and rocks can enter. Have it professionally adjusted when done.
