FILTER HOUSING. FUEL DIST. FUEL PUMPS (2). NEW CAT.
NEW MUFFLERS (2). AIR DUCT HOUSING.

Do a search on fuel pump relay, you can hot wire it to make the fuel pump run for testing.
I do not know the pins off the top of my head.

I AM THINKING OF STOPPING, THE" REPAIRS-BY-ERRORS"
APPROACH AND DONATING THE CAR TO A CHARITY, TAKE
THE $4000 LOSS, CRYING A BIT, AND FLUSH IT AWAY...

I'M ALSO A BIT ANNOYED AT THE SELLER, WHO PROMISED
'THIS CAR WILL NEED LITTLE REPAIR TO MAKE IT A SPLENDID
MB.

Conrad: The most expensive and frustrating method of fixing a problem is to throw parts at it.
To save money and your nerves, get a good professional diagnostic from a competent MB shop.
Fuel pressure, fuel volume, fuel flow, fuel injectors flow and spray pattern, ignition timing, ignition voltage, testing of all sensors, vaccum leaks, etc.
It may cost you a few $$. It looks like so far, your have spent quite a few $$ and you still have the same problem.

THANK YOU FOR ADVICE. ANOTHER PART OF THE ISSUE
IS THE SMOG/EMISSION ONE. THE CAR MUST PASS THE
STATE TEST, OR NO REGISTRATION IS PERMITTED & THE
CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN. SOMEWHERE, SOON IS A MOMENT
OF DECISION.

WHAT I NEED, I THINK, IS A CLEAR DIAGNOSIS.
ARMED WITH THAT, I CAN ESTIMATE THE COSTS.
THEN, DECIDE WHETHER TO KEEP OR TOSS....

"REPAIRS-BY-ERRORS" IS ALIVE AND WELL IN TOO
MANY SHOPS........

PS. I AM NOT A MECH/TECH. I HAVE PAID FOR
THESE 'ON-GOING-' ERRORS/REPAIRS. SO, I'M
NOT THROWING PARTS, BUT BUCKS, NON-STOP
BUCKS FOR SOME TECH/SHOP TO SPEND ON THEIR
HAWAIIN VACATION.

HUMBUG ! !

COME NOW PROF. you own 4 MB's, 2BMW's, an MG TD and you still let shops replace everything in sight without it being fixed. Likely all you needed in the first place was a fuel pump relay.I got a dandy 74 240D that I'll let you have for 25K needs a little work!

The "old 190e" had the exact same problem. Per the advice of a local tech friend, I bled the injector lines AT the fuel distributor.

I had never hear of doing such a thing. He was right. A ton of awful goop came out and all of suddent the car idled well and ran great.

May want to give it a try.

PS: Typing in all CAPS is regarded as YELLING on the Internet.

SOMEWHERE, I DID WRITE THAT I USE LARGE PRINT TO
SEE. NOT TO BE RUDE. EVEN MENTIONED IT TO THE
WEB-MASTER.

KEEP UP THE ADVICE, IT'S GOOD STUFF.....

You are welcome.

Regarding text size, this might help:

If you are using Internet Explorer, go to top of the page and choose View, then Test Size and then clip on Larger or Largest
