Question panel under steering column removal in 560

I want to replace the driver's side speaker in my 88 560sl but can't get the carpeted panel under the steering column off to get to the speaker cover screws! I removed the three plastic screws at the bottom of the panel but the top part appears to be screwed in the dash. How the heck to you get the thing off? Just want to replace the speaker! Thanks

Tom,
There should be two plastic 'button like ' caps on the bottom of the knee bolster, remove these --- get a 10mm socket with a long extension , as you place the socket thru the openings you should be able to feel the nut / at each side // after removing these , wiggle the panel free carefully

kindest regards, Perry
