Hydraulic Fluid Accumulator part
Accumulators for 1990 300TE
Does anyone know of a parts supplier who can provide these accumulators for less than $107.07 per unit? I have been to www.thebenzbin.com, and that is the price. Seems a little high for a simple plastic/metal device with a rubber diaphragm inside. The silly thing looks like a float unit for a water closet (toilet). Are rebuilt units available and reliable? Maybe I should check my mechanic's junkyard. Hm. Also, is it recommend that I simply change the fluid first, and inspect the units. Or should I just get the units, and do it all at once. The ride is o.k., but I can hear the pump running all the time in warm weather, and when I have rear-seat passengers. I assume it is the pump trying to move fluid to level the car. Thank you ~

I dont know of any sources less than 80/90 each, they can not be rebuilt, and getting used ones is insane. Why are you replacing them, does the car bounce, does it raise as the weight increases?
If they are defective, replace them, and then flush the system. The pump runs all the time, the leveling valve just shunts the oil back to the resevoir! |

I thought maybe the diaphragms were going out because that pump runs all the time, and gets especially noisy in the summer. Noise increases on really hot days. I thought something was going on where it was having to work really hard at leveling the suspension. Maybe the hydraulic fluid level is low. Hm.
Could the pump noise be the fuel pump dealing with evaporated gas in the fuel tank? (More evaporation on hot days?) The ride is fine, and the rear end seems to behave over bumps. I have driven other 300TE wagons with fewer miles, and the ride in my wagon seems comparably good. Thanks for the feedback.

Someone posted a year or so ago that accumulators could be recharged by companies that do it for accumulators on Citroens. I have no idea how you would find such a company. Send them to France???

I changed the both hydraulic fluid accumulators this spring time on my 86 190e-16. It has the same system like your TE station wagon. From my reading and experiences from this car, I know that the "accumulator" actually is the shock absorber function. The fluid inside the accumulator push against the diagram onto air cell when wheel bounce up. It is difficult to know when it is out of function. The only thing I noticed are loosing fluid level in the reservoir without any evidence of leaking anywhere, and car contrlol poorly when you make quick turn on wet road. I did pay more than $100 each. The pump is under the hood running all the time to circulate the fluid, and the levelor control how much fuid inside the shock absorber to maintain the car level. I hope this basics help you understand better.

When the accumulator diaphragms leaked the nitrogen into the fluid (on the 560) I noticed that the pump made a horrible growling noise. I thought it was the water pump at first, but couldn't pin point it. The hydraulic pump runs whenever the engine is running, so it does run all the time.
Soon as I replaced my accumulators the pump quit growling.

Currently replacing Hyd/pneu shocks w/ Adapt Damp Sys on 92 600se. Eggs previously changed. Putting in new filters and bleeding enough system fluid to check purity and retopping. Hoping pump and valve ok. Will gladly accept any tips.
