Steering wheel play W202 1997 C36
When I turn my steering wheel either left or right and not straightened it out. I get about 1-2 inches of play on the steering wheel. Any ideas?
How do I explian this better? I turn the steering wheel either left or right. leave it turned, then move the steering wheel enough that it won;t turn the wheels but I get a little play in the wheel. I think it's the steering box? I read it was adjustable. Whats invovled in adjusting it? Is it costly?

I had the same problem in my 740iL. My mechanic said there were no adjustments in that car and that the linkage has so many joints that it eventually gets loose. The car is gone now and so is the problem.
I can feel this starting to happen in my E420. Probably about an inch of play in the steering wheel at this time. Is the steering damper easy to access? Is this a DIY job? |

Thanks, I did the steering dampner last year already along with new lower control arm bushings.
Tie Rods/ends? Ball joint?
