What is wrong with this picture?

New York Times. page A16.

Photo accompanying article entitled, "Pakistani Escapes Assassination Attempt."

caption for photo: "A car from President Musharraf's motorcade that was attacked by two suicide car bombers".

hello....

car in photo would appear to be a E320 cabriolet with its top down.

please tell me, with all that has gone down in Pakistan, all that is likely to go down, can you imagine being part of a Musharraf motorcade and driving such a car with the top down?

most astonishing idea i could imagine, tooling around islamabad[in this case rawalpindi, but no difference] in a musharraf motorcade in a merc cabriolet with the top down.

hello, anybody at home?

I saw that picture in the local papers. However what struck me was the perspective of the car. There was a soldier in the foreground, but the the car appeared too big in perspective. It looked like a badly photoshopped pic.

The other car in the background was an MB too. I can only imagine the cabriolet must be a member of his entourage. The President's car was fully armoured and suffered just a cracked windshield. He has been fortunate to escape two attempts on his life.

BECOMES MORE INTERESTING...

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PIX?

friday, 26/12/03 NYT. page A16. photo accompanying article entitled, "PAKISTANI ESCAPES ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT".

sunday, 28/12/03 NYT. WIR. "another narrow escape for Pakistan's president".

both photos are of a mercedes-benz E320 cabriolet, with the top down.

excuse me.

pervez musharraf is tooling around in a convertible. at this stage in the game.

is he out trolling to be "hit"?

why do i find it beyond comprehension that the gangster of pakistan thinks he can drive around islamabad, rawalpindi in a car with its top down.

what is there about his death wish that hasn't been explained to us, yet?

as good a guess as can be.

i know these cities. i wouldn't be driving around in them in a convertible as a nonentity. let alone as a hated military dictator.

decoy? hmmmmm.

no, there is something strange about these pix as the illustration for the sty concerning a failed "hit".

no one in musharraf's position in that part of the world would ever be tooling around in anything less than a fully armored Sonderklasse benz.

even the car in the background is another w124.

unless pakistan has become suddenly more impoverished, something doesn't jibe.

neither musharraf, nor his predecessors, ever failed to be driven in anything but a fully-armored S klasse benz.

in pakistan, musharraf being driven in w124's is tantamount to the president of the usa being chauffered in chrysler lebarons.

just doesn't happen.

there is something very wrong with this story. that is all i can say. pix and the sty don't work.
