Haynes only makes a repair manual up to 88. The procedure in THAT manual shows that the center louvers can be removed using needle nose plyers. However.... the center louvers on an 89 190e do not appear to be "removable".
Anyone know how it is done for the 89 190e? Thanks to all who take time to reply. |

From one of my previous posts: "Had the same problem with a couple of my vents (1986 2.3-16V). I ended up purchasing ALL new vents (qty: 4). The price was pretty reasonable at my local MBZ dealer -- about $9.00 each. Other than that, I was told you could remove the vents and glue a small strip of felt to either of the sides to create more friction. To remove the vents, get a couple of needle-nose pliers and a rag (to prevent gouging the vent). Grip a vent blade near each end of the vent and pull straight out. To install, just line up the slots with the pegs and push in."
Hope this helps. Brian |

Figured it out... they came right out! Thanks! I will try the felt trick.... as my wife keeps stuffing paper in one of them to keep it in her face.....lol.
Thanks. |

instead of the felt, i used some silicone on the sides of the vents to create additional friction so the vents do not move by themselves. Just make sure the silicone cures before you install the vents ...

What works for me is needle nose pliers with a piece of rubber tubing on each tip. I use the clear tubing that used to be used for gas lines.
