Help! How hard is it to replace rear crakshaft seal?
I think I found where my oil is coming from. After watching it run while on the ramps, I noticed oil coming from a weep hole on the drivers side just below the head in the rear of the motor. It backs up to the bell housing. Is this the rear main seal going bad and can it be replaced without taking off the intermediate flange assem. after the trans. is removed? I have an 82 380 sel 126, w/ a 116. 96 motor. Thanks!! les

Rear main is inside the bell housing.
I suspect you have a leaking oil gallery plug. Probably have to pull the engine to fix, it's a hard steel ball driven into the block. Peter

Did this steel ball fall out of this orifice I see leaking the oil. Or, is it an indicator of the ring seal failing. Would there be a similar gallery hole on the opposite side too? Thanks ! les

If the steel ball is missing, you will have oil spraying out, not just leaking!
I they are just tapped in, but I'd not go pounding on anything until I was sure -- I'm not that familiar with the back side of that engine. Peter
