I am back to building up my courage to remove
the instrument cluster in my '82 300sd. Here is the question. Do I have to remove the steering wheel to get the cluster out far enough to change the dimmer and the instrument lights? I don't have tilt or telescoping wheel. ------------------ 82 300SD 100K 91 Caprice SS 92 Jetta TD |

Most manuals I have seen have told me I had to remove the steering wheel to get at my lights in the instrument cluster. I have not yet had to remove it for either of the models I own. You may have to disconnect the speedometer through the lower dash panel or at the trans. attachment...and you should be careful if you have an actual oil line for your pressure guage...but otherwise, it is relatively simple and requires no steering wheel removal.

Sounds simple enough, but I think the 126 has an electronic speedo and oil pressure so it should be even easier. If I am wrong on that somebody please correct me.
Thanks for the advice. ------------------ 82 300SD 100K 91 Caprice SS 92 Jetta TD |

A big thankyou for alll the advice. I got my instrument removing tools and had the dash out, dimmer changed and back in place in about 5min. Can't believe how simple it was.
Cheers till next time. ------------------ 82 300SD 100K 91 Caprice SS 92 Jetta TD |
