SL Center Consol Removal Window Switch

Hi-
I recently replaced a window switch on my 92 500sl 129 chasis and thought I'd share the process with everyone before I forget it.

Removal of Center Console:
1. Remove the "insert" from behind the small door compartment that is located at the center base of the console. This is the
compartment with the flip up door.

Note: do not remove the door from the assembly-ONLY the insert.

a. Remove the one scew at the bottom center of the insert.

b. Remove the "insert" by folding in both side corners . To do this, reach in at the back top corner of the insert and fold in. Do this on both sides and the insert can then be removed.

c. Once the insert is removed, two additional screw will be exposed; one on the right and one on the left. Remove both screws.

NOTE-Before removing the radio in the next step you'll need to move the shifter down its furthest location to make room for the radio.

2. Remove the Radio. This is easily performed with the REMOVAL keys for stock radios or by following the removal instructions for a non-stock radio. Mercedes has the keys for about $10. If you have a non-stock radio-like me-you'll need to consult the owners manual for how to remove.

3. Remove the Climate Control Unit. With the radio removed, you'll see two tabs under and at the front of the CCU. By depressing the tabs, you'll unlock the CCU. By pulling on the unit from behind it-with the tabs depressed, the unit will now be free to move-but only move it out a few inches enough to expose the two wiring cables.
Disocnnect the wiring harness on both
sides. The connector will be on the top pf the unit on both the right and left sides. Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the CCU.

4. Once the CCU is removed, you'll need to
remove two screws-one on each side.

5. Now you gently lift the console off by pulling "gently" at the base of the unit by the window switches until it "unlocks" from its clips. Once it is "freed" from its base you can now remove the cables from the switches. Once the switch cables are disconnected-the console can be fully removed.
