MicroMark has ultrasonic cleaner and solution. I don't think their cleaner is big enough, but check.

Something isn't right with the picture you provided. You shouldn't have so much sticking out. The seal locking ring should be almost flush, and the pin sticks out less than 10 mm. If you unscrewed all that to check the seal, I hope you followed instructions in the factory manual and measured the position before dis assembly.

Smile Illustration Purposes Only

Hi Peter & Myarmar-

Thanks for the help. Peter, the only reason that I posted that photo is for illustration purposes only, so Steve would know exactly what I was talking about. I agree, and know that the plunger is secured to the FD with a screw cap, but I do appreciate your keen eye.

I did a search for ultrasonic cleaners, and was hoping to find some in my area, so I would not have to wait any longer.

I appreciate everyone that has any comments about this thread, and hope this helps someone else in the future.

87 300E,

You are very confusing in your posts, and I am sure Steve would agree. I'm sorry, I can't help you, because I have no clue as to what is going on here.

Smile Thanks Peter

Hi Peter,

The picture that I posted was for Steve , and he has been following my previous posts, and has been aware of them. I posted them to ask about the plunger stem clearance to the small piece (seperate plunger housing where the plunger seal is attached) that it travels through.

While I'm not sure why I am confusing to you (even in this thread) because I thought I have explained the questions that I had about the FD. Maybe you didn't read all the previous posts, but Myarmar helped with his article (and was not confused ) on ultrasonic cleaning the FD. That's the technical info I have been looking for....thanks again Myarmar!

But, I appreciate your willingness to help, and your keen eye! Hope all is well with you! Thanks again and take care.

Thumbs up POSITIVE 300E UPDATE !!.....Cleaning a FD

I had cleaned my fuel dist. with two tall cans of carb. cleaner, and then with one can of starting fluid. Re-installed and the engine started, ran and flooded.

After cleaning my fuel distributor with the last process of soaking in hot water in a pot on the stove for 10 minutes at approximately 140 degrees, more rust sediment settled to the bottom of the pot. Before I soaked it, I cleaned it externally with "Greased Lightning" (a powerful degreaser). Since the FD gets plenty hot during the summer, I figured I had nothing to loose by submitting it to 140 degrees in water.

The water did not boil, but was bubbling (similar to the bubbling action of the ultrasonic cleaning solution affect). I had the exhaust fan above the stove on as well. I allowed the FD to air dry completely, for 4 days, then re-installed it as of this evening. After adjustments on the mixture adjustment tower, the engine started to clear up and run excellent.

The FD is now back in operation, although adjustments on the plunger are in order, and that will happen tomorrow. At least my engine will crank on the first try, run smooth and not flood at all, and does hold a steady idle after the warm-up period. I will post another update after making adjustments to the underside (plunger setting) of the FD.

My research into cleaning a Fuel Distributor has paid off, with a little patience you can do the same to yours if needed.
