1986 300SDL: keyless entry and parking lights..where to tap?

Finally finished adding the keyless entry unit into my '86 300SDL. I'd like to hook up the parking lights for lock/unlock confirmation. Anyone hook up their 300SDL's parking lights for this and where did you tap? TIA.

--A correction here. I wired the system into my turn signal lights.

Figured it out with my trusty Fluke meter. I'm going to try to get pix of the whole shebang and post them on my site.

There's a cable under the driver's side dash, to the left of the steering wheel, that terminates onto a square-ish connector. The connector sits on/against a brace, I believe for the parking brake.

Pop the top off the connector and the first two pins/wires on the left, black w/white stripe and black w/green stripe are for your parking lights. There are actually pairs of each....2 wires of black/white and 2 black/green and they are both soldered onto the pins inside the connector. Cut one black/white and black/green.

Put one diode each, 1N4005 from Radio Shack will do, on the black/white and black/green wires either coming off the connector or the cable....making sure the diode's band are on the same side as the cut wire. (you want the diode's band facing -away- from the wire that comes from the keyless entry unit) The diode will block current coming from the car's wires to the keyless entry unit so the unit doesn't get damaged. Take the ends of both diodes facing the keyless entry unit and solder or crimpt them (preferably crimp then solder the crimp connector) into a crimp connector. Put a crimp connector onto the wire from the keyless entry unit and interface the connectors together.

Now the tricky part. Take the other end of the black/white and black/green wires that aren't connected to anything and somehow connect them back to the other wires' ends that have the diodes on them. Basically what we did was splice a diode into one of the wires in each pair of the black/white and black/green wires. You can think of it as a "T" where the upper cross line is the black/white or black/green wires and the bottom leg of the "T" is the diode. Make sure you either shrink tube your connections or use good electrical tape. Test out the parking lights with the keyless entry and if it works OK, tidy everything up and you're done. If you have problems, check your connections and/or ask me here.

I did the same thing, but with two relays.

Relay # 1:

* 87 & 85 : Light Output from alarm/RS unit
* 86 : Ground
* 30 : To left side of parking lights (terminal 58L)
* 87a: NOT USED

Relay # 2 :

* 87 & 85 : Light Output from alarm/RS unit
* 86 : Ground
* 30 : To right side of parking lights (terminal 58R)
* 87a: NOT USED
