126 transmission: rebuild or replace?

Hi everyone. Just need some advice on my trans. for my 82 380 sel. Iam going to be removing it to replace the rear main seal. It slips from 2-3 at part throttle. Also, it has a delay when going into reverse. I have read about these comman probs. w/ 722. My question is: Is there a reputable trans rebuilder in the tri-state area familiar w/ updated reverse and K1 clutches knowledge that can rebuild my trans, or is it easier getting one directly via Adist or other? Anyone else do this? I live in del. The trans will be out; how much would this cost w/ a new converter. I have seen approx. 1400-1600$ w/core exchange. How much for a rebuild and recond. converter. Car has only 121k. I changed all the atf fluiid and put a qt of LUCAS trans rx in. It seems it slips less when it gets warmer. It shifts great when I floor it. Could this just be an updated modulator adj needed or is the atf just too thick now? The fluid wasn't that burnt and the previous owner mentioned the reverse issue but never said it slipped at all. Thanks again: iam still learning. les

It's been 15 or 16 months...

...but i got one for my 560 from Sun Valley in CA for i think 1200 or 1400 delivered, and at that time core return was prepaid. Rebuilt and dyno'd, shifted sweet out of the crate. Included torque converter. Adsit is 100 miles from here, but there was several hundred dollars difference. Ordered on a Thursday afternoon from the LA area, was in South Bend, IN on the following Monday afternoon. Faster than UPS ground. Will dig up info if you are interested. I'd buy from them again.

Hmmm. That seems to be the going rate I guess. I would hate to save a little w/ a rebuilt item and have to pull it again than to pay for complete new item. Thanks! les
