124 heater question

its been awhile since I had any heater problems on my old 300d, I need to know which vac. pod is for the floor heat on my 300e, is it the one behind the glove box or the drivers floor, the heat comes out the side vents and the defrost, thanks for the help

124 heater question

Your situation was exactly like mine before I reconnected a loose green vacuum hose at the firewall. Seems that no vacuum to dash manifold defaults heat to the side vents and defrost. Check this first. I Mityvac'd the hoses at the manifold behind the glovebox and found all to be operational on my 124. The fix also smoothed shifting of the trans-added bonus. Mike

I believe the pod for the floor vents is behind the climate control push button unit, attached to the front of the heater box. If you need to replace it, you don't need to R&R the dash, just the stuff around the PBU.

Yes, that's correct. The vacuum element for the floor vents is on the front of the heater box. It can be accessed by removing the climate push button unit and/or the radio. Definately insure the element is the problem by testing with a mityvac before going through the effort of changing it.

If no vacuum is supplied to the climate system you will get air flow out the defrost vents and side vents. Try engaging the hi/lo button or turning the temp. dial all the way cold. See if you can get air out the floor vents or center vents. If so, there is vacuum being supplied. If not, it's unlikely all the vacuum elements failed at once, so go looking for vacuum leaks under the hood.
