Ditto. Back brakes started squeaking in reverse after installing new pads.

The leather seats sound like old creaky luggage because the blue leather is old and hard. I haven't found a permanent solution for this. Leather conditioners only quiet it for a couple weeks. Sometimes it sounds like someone is making balloon animals inside tha car!

Well, to update on my 1985 380SE, with nearly 270K, I still have no actual squeaks or rattles, but the door panels "scrunch" like crazy, even on smooth roads... they "scrunch" with road motions. The seats may be part of it, but they are MB-Tex and still are soft, so I do not think so.

I am guessing this could classify as squeaks (the door panel scrunching)???
Also, since someone had installed a hard plastic dash cover, over the cracked original one, it will "scrunch" as well over bumps.

Mine are very quite in all regards.

I remember when we were test driving little SUV's for my mom, we took out the brand new Honda CRV. Fresh redesign, first one on the lot, the salesmen was all happy. We took it on the highway and it was freaken loud. Then he was like isn't this quite? Compared to what? I just got back from a road trip in a W140 so compared to the W140 it sounded like a door was open.

The Rav4 she bought is louder at idle then my shot SD with a missing hoodpad! I have been driving MB's to long, I'm not used to wind noise and engine noise.

No, nothing, nada, zilch, not a single squeak or rattle, which is not bad for a 16 year old coupe with 118,000 miles on it.

Compare and contrast that with a BRAND NEW 2001 Volvo C70 HPT turbo coupe I purchased on 12/29/2000 in California that had SO MANY of them, from NEW, that the car was declared a Lemon, bought back by the factory in Montvale NJ, who sold it as a branded Lemon car to some dealer nearby in NJ who flogged it off on ebay later on.

Lexus is ftw.

'95 C220 - 8. There is a rattle behind the dash during low speed accelerations. And that's it. But it's quite obnoxious kind of rattle and MB is bad in terms of taking things apart to get rid of rattles (more often than not you just make new rattles by taking things apart).

'89 Toyota Cressida - 10. I don't know how toyota did it but apparently they thought about everything before they even thought about making the Lexus brand. Toyota interiors are FTFW! Sure wind noise is bad over 140km/h but back in 89 you are deemed a maniac to bring your car to that speed! LOL.

all of you should find this interesting.i found BY ACCIDENT that most of the door panel squeeking or noise in a 126 body comes from the step sills[the piece of trim that covers the edge of the carpet and the outer body channel] if you open door and look at the step sill you will see a very thin gasket or flap of rubber that the door panel will close against.they are usually hard as a rock.take a tube of grease and lay a bead of grease along the whole length on each door and then go drive it and see how much the creaks and noises have diminished.obviously the fix is to replace the step sills but dealer only and not cheap but try and you decide if worth it.

Only squeaks I have are the sounds from the seat material on back seats rubbing together as you go over some bumps. But this is sound I have come to appeciate as a true Mercedes sound. I did put a little vaseline between the seat cushion and seat back on the back seats and this eliminated most of the sound.

An easy fix for the door squeak is to run a strip of furry weatherstripping along the bottom of the door card where it meets the lip on the sill. Nice and quiet, takes a few minutes to do and a few dollars from the hardware store. Or cut off the lip - which I am told was a MB service notice some years ago, I just don't like cutting bits off my car!

wanted to comment on my "new" MB

Well, I had commented on my old 1985 Mercedes 380SE in the original post... a mostly rattle free car, but had those terrible scrunching door panels, but the car had 275K, so I could NOT complain.

Since then I had a 1984 Mercedes 190D with 157K. To my amazement, the interior was totally rattle and squeak free, despite overly stiff suspension.

Now I have a 1988 Mercedes 300SEL with 154K and I am very happy that it is totally squeak and rattle free and it does NOT have the scrunching door panel issue that my old 85' 380SE had, nor a 1989 300SE I had tested a couple of years ago. I guess its possible someone had added those strips that someone showed they added to their lower door panels... I will have to check that. Overall, I am very pleased with this car.

Yeah, that is pretty impressive for a northern car. What, with all of those potholes, etc. It really takes a toll on a cars interior I would imagine?

For a twenty three year old car with a quarter million miles on it, it is in pretty dam good shape..

yeah, it groans a bit at times, but so do I...

Can't complain... "Hildegarde" gets me where i want to go, in a little bit of style...

both cars regularly maintained, both dead quiet, no squeaks and rattles, very little road noise. I get comments from passengers reularly that cannot believe the age of the vehicles and the ride quality.
