How to match vin number to part number?

In FastLane there are frequent references to needing to get part number x if you have vin number ??? or part u if you have vin ???

I can’t figure it out the relationship Anyone have a guideline?

THe last 6 digits of the VIN is the chassis number for your car. If your number is 953833 and the part says it fits "up to" 953999 then you're covered. If your VIN is above 953999 then the part will not fit. Engine numbers are the same system except that the engine serial is after the engine type #. Ex 103 983 xxxxx.
