Sound from front of engine
I've been having to flutter the gas pedal when I start my 89 2.6L 190E. When it's in drive the economy arrow goes a quater to the red when the car isn't moving. I had a friend step on the brake while I popped the hood, and there is a pinging sound coming from the front of my engine. The cap and rotor are just over a month old. Any ideas?

check the upper bushing on the belt tensioner shock. they get loose and rattle, etc.
the running problem might be a vacuum leak. pull the air cleaner and check all the hoses you can, including under the intake. good luck, chuck. |

If I had it running, it will start up no problem a few minutes later. It seemed to start fine while it was warmer.
