96 C280 Key Remote Control Failure?

Hi,

I may have a failed remote control key for 96 C280. Installed new batteries but the led still does not light or blink after holding the button down more than 5 secs. Tried resynchronizing the remote with no luck.

Is there a common mode failure or something simply that I can check on the remote.

The dealer cost for this remote is about $150.00 is there another source for the remote.
