126 Glovebox

Do all 126 models have glovebox doors that fly open at the slightest bump? What's the remedy?

Hi jackmac,
mine stays closed over all bumps. There are 2 screws on the top left and right outside of the opening with rubber heads that can be screwed in and out to adjust the door.
Good luck

What yr did they eliminate the glove box?

Hi Gerry,
mine is an '87 420 and it has the air bag only for the driver. So somewhere between '88 and '91 it must have happened.

Glovebox latch loose?

You should feel some resistance when operating the latch. There is a small spring in there which may have come out of place. I had this problem for quite a while, and one day took some time, took it apart and fixed it. It does require some patience. It also may not immediately appear obvious how to put it right. VERY carefully disassemble, taking careful note of how and where parts are, so you can get it back together correctly. It has been quite some time since I fixed mine, wish I could be of more help. The thing that stands out in my memories of this job, is the fact I looked at it a long time before I had it figured out.
Go slow, take care and good luck.

My '91 has only the driver air bag and no problem with the door opening on it's own, so far, (at present time I live on a dirt road).
