SRS light - seat belt switch

My 88 560SL has had the SRS light on since I bought it. Searching this site tells me that the most likely culprits are the seat belt switch and/or the slip ring contacts in the steering wheel. Since the buzzer does not go off when the seat belt is unbuckled I suspect the seat belt switch and it seems that this is a good place to start. How do I check the switch? Can they be fixed? I'd be thankful for any info on this. I found no info in the manual and I really dont have a clue.
Thanks.

My srs light came on and I found a wire under the drivers seat had come out of a connector. I just moved the seat into its highest position and all the way forward to get to it.
Cheap fix. Good Luck
