Replacing rotors on 98 C230 - what is MB long-term grease??

I will be replacing all the rotors and pads on my 98 C230. Looking over the instructions in the STAR Service Manual Library, it says "Lightly grease seat of brake disc with MB long-term grease".

What is this and will it be available from the dealer? The part number seems to be 000 989 63 51

Can I substitute non-MB grease?

Thanks

Never-Sieze will do the same thing. Substitute away.

Yes, this is simply anti-sieze compound. Much more important than using the compound is cleaning the mating surface of the hub thoroughly with a steel brush. If you take the hub off to pack the wheel bearings at the same time, you can use the steel brush on a bench grinder, otherwise, use a handheld steel brush and clean it up good.

Good luck,

Thanks for mentioning that, Larry. Rust between the rotor and hub can cause the disc to not run true and create the same effect as warped rotors. It's very frustrating to see brake and muffler shops just slap new rotors on with no anti-sieze and no cleaning.

Thanks for the replies. The MB grease is a special order item from the local MB dealer at $25. I am going to go with the anti-seize compound.

Taskertown-

Fastlane has the single-application packets of the OE MB brake pad paste for around a dollar each. Cute little logo'ed packets, but looks an awful lot like anti-seize, as was previously mentioned.
