124 Window Switch Replacement
I have a 1989 300 TE and need to replace the drivers door window switch. Do I have to remove the wood console to do this? Someone told me the switches just "pop" out, but couldn't be more specific on how to do it. Last time I had a switch replaced, the dealer did it and charged me $100. My financial situation is different now. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! Ira M. Schneiderman & "Heidi" (89 300 TE w/165,000 miles) |

Open the ashtray and remove the insert. Remove the two screws and pull the whole ashtray out. Remove the small piece of carpet in the center console (if you have a rolltop box, open it and remove the two screws in front, and then remove the box). There's one screw on a black tab. Remove this and you can pull the wood up carefully.

Someone told me the switches just "pop" out
____________________________________________________ I just did this job yesterday and here's how it works. The switches are held in place with a small spring clip. Lift up the wood trim and you will see the switch. Unhook the wires going into the switch, just pull them out. Then insert the tip of a very small screwdriver into the spring clip and gently pry on it and the switch will then pop right out of the clip. Nothing to it. If your switch is bad you can order a new one from FastLane for around $25 plus shipping. A lot better than paying a dealer $100 for the same job.

These switches rarely wear out. Often they are just full of dirt, debris and crap. Clean them..... and save yourself $. Easy to do .... just be sure to do it over a towel so the little ball bearings don't get scattered.
