Where is...who can help here?
Hey guys:
On a european model 1983 190E: Where is the cold start valve? Where is the idle control valve? And, how do I check if they are working or not? I posted a couple of questions here but no answers yet. I read around as I have a high idle problem (always idles fast) and my car is hard to start when hot and sitting for a few minutes. I need to locate those items and test them to see if buying new ones would fix my problems. Thanks, -=>Raja. |

IF you have an idle control valve, it would look similar to those several threads have posted pics of, between the third and fourth intake runners. If you don't see anything there, follow the air intake plumbing from the underside of the airflow meter housing. Older models may have just a thermostatically-controlled high-idle valve for cold starts.

I do need to find that out
Thanks for the reply! Oh yeah, since I do have a 1983 european model I wonder how similar or different it is than the 1984 us models. It looks about the same under the hood, but you never know if I have these items or not.
Can you post a link to the post with a picture showing these items? The car is out in the cold in the dark now (after work) and I don't really feel like popping the hood outside and looking for it. Would be nicer to do over the weekend in daylight, and hopefully by then I would have located a picture to find it easily! Also, if you guys know once I find these items can I take them out and clean them (if they are sticking for example) and/or test them with voltage or a voltmeter to see if indeed they are good or bad before I special order them? Thanks Steve for your reply!! -=>Raja. |
