Topic: dealer got scratches all over car mermaid Member Before you read this story, let me say, before this happened, this car had almost a perfect finish with barely any swirl marks, the clear coat was immaculate. On Friday I went to pick up my car from the dealership. It was there for a couple of reasons, one of the main was for "paintless" dent removal and touch-up of all paint all over the car. Well, they got most of the dings out, but the 3 or 4 the couldn't now look much worse because they damaged the paint and now it looks all cracked where they worked on the dings/dents. THE WORST PART OF ALL!!!!....... is that the idiot who "buffed" the paint over the touchups, DIDN't wash the car first and now there are these fine scratches ALL OVER the car. it gives it a foggy appearance in the right light. The scratches are not deep, but they are EVERYWHERE! I called the dealership and complained and they are going to "see" what they can do...... How severe is this damage?????? Please advise! thanks so much |

From my past experiences with paintless dent removal, there is not a 100% gaurantee they will remove them, and they are not responsible for possibly damaging the paint if they could not remove the dent. However, the operator should have been experienced enough to know whether or not he could in fact remove the dents before he started. At most MB dealerships (unless you get a very large and good one) the detailers are literally just kids (like 17 or 18) that hey hire as temps to do the cleaning work. That's why I would never let my car be cleaned by my local dealer. As for the swirl marks, just complain and see what you can get done. If they have any customer satisfaction at all, then they should either remove them themselves or pay a pro to do it.

They can probably get the scratches out, but the sad thing is, they will chew away a lot of your clearcoat doing it.
I'm sure that there are some good MB dealer service departments out there. I sure wish that one was in my area. I had a new EClass back in '96. I would take it in for warranty service (alot) and it would be perfectly handwashed with fresh wax. As a customer "SERVICE". They would wash it before returning it. Okay, that's a nice gesture, but the car was perfectly clean and waxed and they'd do a 50 cent car wash and leave spots all over it and was away some of the wax. What is it about these people? My explanation is that it's attitude. There are some dealers of all brands that have a; go to work, put in eight hours, get by enough not to get fired, and then go home, attitude. Good luck with getting her looking good again. Stick to your guns. Larry |

Well, today I decided to give the detaling thing a try. I just couldn't wait any longer to see if these scratches would come out. I only did the trunk and the hood and the top of the fenders. (I am too out of shape to do the whole car and my hubby had other plans.)
Well, it seemed to work!!! I'll see better in the morning with the bright sun, but it looks darn good. After what the dealer did, I really didn't want them to "remove" what they did. I don't trust them now. But suposedly, they are the largest Mercedes dealer in the country and pride themselves on "exceeding their customers expectations" they sure met that goal with me. ha ha thanks everyone for your input. ------------------ proud owner of 300E |

Mermaid:
Did you try using the techniques in Lee's article on detailing under the 'do it yourself' section? I thought I new how to wash and wax a car before I tried his techniques - boy, was I surprised at what a difference the right materials and procedures make! Good luck on the scratch removal! ------------------ JCE 87 300E, 65k miles Smoke Silver |
