serpentine belt question
Hi All,
How does one determine if the belt should be replaced as a preventative measure... thanks,

These belts are REALLY durable and long lived. To inspect, simply look at the grooved side of the belt for cracking. If you see cracks, replace it. You don't have to consider it an emergency because it will last for a long time even when cracked. That said you should replace it if necessary. Don't try to run it too long.

As Larry said, the belt will last a long time, despite its cosmetic appearance.
But your belt-driven components on your car will eventually need replacement. When that happens, belt removal is necessitated, so that's a good time to go ahead and replace it.
